(RIVER GLADE, NB – September 18th, 2021) – Braxton Stafford (Miramichi, NB) became the second multi-time winner in 2021 on the Atlantic Modified Tour Friday night when he drove to victory lane in Round Ten on the Tour. It is Stafford’s first victory of the season at Petty International Raceway in the Series last trip on the season to the high banked bullring in River Glade, New Brunswick.
Stafford had to hold off the field on a final restart in the 35-lap feature on Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend with just four laps remaining in the event. Stafford battled with point leader Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB) in both the heat race and feature for several laps before Stafford got the advantage on Conroy in the final lead change on Lap 27. The final caution flag of the evening with four laps to go with Conroy and reigning Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend winner Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB) being involved and heading to the back for the final restart of the race.
Stafford held on for the victory over reigning Series champion Yves McCray (Neguac, NB). Wilson rebounded in the final laps for third with Conroy and Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) completing the top five in the ten car field. Stafford edged Conroy to win the first qualifying heat of the evening while Wilson made a late race pass on Matchett to take home the second qualifier. The 35-lap feature took 20 minutes to complete.
