(FREDERICTON, NB – September 8th, 2021) – The Atlantic Modified Tour heads to Petty International Raceway for Round Nine of the 2021 season. The 35-lap feature marks the second of three trips to the River Glade, New Brunswick oval on the year and first of two races in seven days at the high banked bullring. Racing begins on Saturday, September 11th at 4pm.

Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB) returns to Petty International Raceway with the point lead with just three scheduled point races to go on the year. Conroy’s lead was cut to 17 points after the Northside Auto Parts 35 at Speedway 660 last Sunday but with the Series racing the next two rounds at a track that Conroy won at in June, the momentum could swing back into the favor of the No. 7 Patterson Sales and Service Modified team.

Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) is the one playing chase to Conroy this season. McCray entered this time last year as the hunted and not the hunter and will enter the final three races looking to regain the top spot. McCray is coming off a runner-up finish to Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB) last weekend in Geary and was runner-up to Conroy in the only Petty Raceway event for the Atlantic Modified Tour in June.

The third place battle in points is one that seemingly nobody wants to gain an upper hand on. A mechanical problem after his heat race last week put Joe Hoyt’s (Waasis, NB) championship run on hold. Hoyt now has three cars in his proverbial rear view mirror wanting the spot. The No. 17 Keswick Kitchen Modified is 48 points out of a championship spot but only 21 points up on sixth place Braxton Stafford (Miramichi, NB). Stuck in the middle of Hoyt and Stafford are Miramichi based drivers Zean Dutcher and Doug Matchett. Of the quartet going for third in points, Dutcher was the only one to score a podium finish in the Northside Auto Parts 35 last weekend at Speedway 660. Dutcher was third behind Conroy and McCray at Petty Raceway in June.

A field of approximately a dozen Atlantic Modified Tour are expected to compete in Saturday’s ninth round of the season. As per Atlantic Modified Tour procedures, heat races will be run ahead of the 35-lap feature on Saturday.

In the last ten Atlantic Modified Tour races at Petty International Raceway, three drivers have multiple wins including McCray (three), Wilson (two) and Brandon Skidmore (Springhill, NS; two). Matchett, Conroy and Logan Power (Riverview, NB) each have single wins in Atlantic Modified Tour competition in the last ten races at the track, dating back to August 2018. In eight point races in 2021, six different drivers have won races with Wilson (three) being the only multiple time winner this season.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18 with children aged seven and under admitted for free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates open at 10:30am, grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm with qualifying getting underway at 4pm. Camping is available on a first come, first serve basis.
